PRESTO for Students

Whether you're new to PRESTO or new to campus, here's everything you need to get moving.

Going back to school?

Students (ages 13 to 19) going back to high school can set up a Youth Fare Type by heading to a participating retail location or Customer Service Outlet with your PRESTO card and photo ID showing your age. Keep your ID on you when you travel.

Full-time students (agest 20 to 64) attending a post-secondary school can set up a discounted Post-Secondary Student Fare Type in three simple steps!

Step 1: Get a PRESTO Card

Grab a digital or physical PRESTO card.

A physical PRESTO Card lets you load funds or passes and travel with ease.
Physical PRESTO Card
Get a PRESTO card in your Apple Wallet, load funds and tap your Apple device.
Get a PRESTO card in your Google Wallet, load funds and tap your Android device.

Step 2: Set up a Post Secondary fare type

Apply for a GO Student ID online for 40% off the adult cash fare.

Travel with TTC

Travel with TTC

Buy a TTC Student ID, then visit a customer service outlet to set a Post-Secondary Student fare type on your PRESTO card. Once your fare type is set up, you can load a discounted monthly pass. If you don't load a monthly pass, you'll pay a regular adult fare when you tap to take the TTC.

Some schools include transit in student fees. You will receive a PRESTO Voucher code (which includes a Post-Secondary Fare Type and U-Pass).

Travel with OC Transpo

Travel with OC Transpo

Some students in Ottawa will receive an OC Transpo U-Pass loaded onto their student card instead of on a PRESTO card. Students at the following schools are eligible:

Carleton University
Saint Paul University
Algonquin College
University of Ottawa

Students attending schools with U-Pass programs will receive a PRESTO Voucher code that can be redeemed through the PRESTO App or website to add a post-secondary fare type and a U-Pass to their PRESTO card.

Check with your school for more information about your U-Pass, including eligibility and how to get your voucher code.

Load Funds

Load Funds

Students that attend schools without U-Pass programs will need to load PRESTO funds or student transit passes to travel. Student fares may vary by Transit Agency, please check your local Transit Agency.
