A PRESTO Voucher is a code provided by a transit agency, school, employer or organization that can be redeemed for funds, transit passes, or discounts on an eligible PRESTO card.

Local transit agencies, including MiWay, Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) and Durham Region Transit (DRT), work with PRESTO to provide specialized student programs to the following institutions:

  • McMaster University
  • Mohawk College
  • Redeemer University
  • Columbia International College
  • Durham College
  • Ontario Tech
  • Trent (GTA)
  • University of Toronto (Mississauga)

Program availability, eligibility requirements, and benefits vary by institution and transit agency.

Depending on your transit agency, you may still qualify for student discounts.

GO Transit and UP Express

  • Eligible full-time post-secondary students can receive a 40% discount on fares.
  • Students must attend one of the following institutions (click here for list) and obtain a PRESTO Voucher.
  • Once the voucher is redeemed on the PRESTO App or website, the discount is automatically applied when traveling.

Toronto Transit Commission (TTC)

  • Eligible post-secondary students can receive a discounted TTC Post-Secondary monthly pass.
  • Students must attend one of the following institutions (click here for list). 
  • The discount only applies to TTC Post-Secondary Monthly PassesTTC adult fares apply when paying per ride.

A PRESTO Voucher code can only be redeemed once and cannot be used again on a different card, including a replacement cardPlease use the lost card process to transfer your card details, including your U-Pass and post-secondary fare type, to your replacement card.

You may be unable to redeem a voucher for one of the following reasons:

  • Redeeming the voucher would cause your card balance to exceed the maximum PRESTO card balance of $500.
  • The voucher has expired or is no longer valid

If your balance is close to $500, please wait to redeem your voucher until your balance is lower, and then try again.

For expired or invalid vouchers, please contact the organization that issued the voucher to you.

You may be unable to redeem a transit pass for one of the following reasons:

  • You already have a transit pass on your PRESTO card that covers the same time period.
  • You already have an active Autorenew agreement for the same transit agency and transit pass type.
  • The fare type on your PRESTO card does not match the transit pass being loaded (for example, a Youth pass cannot be loaded onto a card set to the Senior fare type).
  • The voucher has expired or is no longer valid.

You can check your fare type through the PRESTO app or website by viewing your card details.

For expired or invalid vouchers, please contact the organization that issued the voucher to you.
